과거 조동사
“I must have lost it”(과거의 추측), “she could have called”(실현되지 않은 가능성), “they might have already left”(과거의 짐작), “it shouldn't have been done”(비판). 실제 대화에서는 have가 거의 항상 've로 줄어들어서 “should've”, “could've”, “must've”처럼 쓰이는데, 발음이 “of”와 워낙 비슷해서 원어민도 가끔 “should of”라고 잘못 쓰기도 해요. 과거 조동사는 학습자에게 가장 까다로운 영역 중 하나이면서, 실제 대화에서는 정말 자주 나와요.
