What does “관리” mean in Korean beauty talk?

In a dictionary, 관리 means “management,” the word for running a building or a budget. It also covers the upkeep of your own body: 건강 관리 is looking after your health, and 몸매 관리 is keeping your figure. 관리를 해야 돼 means “you’ve got to keep yourself up,” and someone who 관리를 잘했다 has aged well or stayed in shape.

It builds a family of words: 자기관리 (“self-management,” discipline in general), and 피부 관리 (skincare, and a 피부 관리실 is a facial salon). In the clip someone checks their reflection, says 그래 평소에 관리를 해야 돼 (“right, you have to keep it up every day”), and tries some stretching; the pep talk 오늘도 화이팅 (“go me, today too”) ends on 넌 왜 안 되지? (“why can’t you?”).
